MICHIGAN ADULT MALES

"Sherman"
Meet Sherman in Remus, MI

Sherman10-31-09 Sherman comes into rescue from an Ohio shelter. Sherman has a great personality and has had multiple good reports from shelter staff, vet students, foster family and transporters. Sherman is about 2-1/2 years old, has a long tail, and dark chestnut mottling. Sherman is a very striking boy, has a great temperament with people and other dogs (even puppies). Sherman weighs 60 pounds, and is built like a tank. Sherman is simply a nice boy.

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"Bud"
Meet Buddy in Remus, MI

Thank You, Thomas, for 1 month Sponsor

Buddy7-23-09: Buddy is an 8 month old red heeler male pup looking for a new home. Buddy is an owner surrender due to his owner working 24 hour shifts, and this not working for a pup of this breed. Buddy had been showing anxiety by chewing on his tail.

8-13-09 Buddy has been in rescue for 3 weeks, and we are encouraged with his progress. We don't have the tail chewing from stress. We are not using the "medication" prescribed to stop his stress. Buddy has made friends with Newton, Miley, Hush, Levi, Quip and Polo. This shows us great strides, as when he came here, he was afraid of the other rescues. Buddy stays in his crate over night, which is another improvement.

10-31-09 Buddy has returned from a week long tryout. Buddy did well by the sounds of it, just not a match for their resident dog. We are graduating Buddy to the adult page as he turns one year old in November. See his new picture added to his photo album at his tryout home. Buddy looks very happy.

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"Simpson"
Meet Simpson in Remus, MI

Simpson9-18-09 Simpson arrives at the Remus Rescue, after our volunteers picked him up from the Humane Society. After helping him, we realized he was posted for a month prior to his surrender to the Humane Society.

We are going to post the other bio, due to the fact that Simpson is very scared, very overweight and very depressed at the moment. We'll give him a few days to find his bearings, and then start working with what he needs.

Simpson is a 2 year old cattle dog. He was born Jan 17th 2007. Simpson is neutered and up to date on shots. Simpson is also housebroken. Simpson's owner has to give him up because they moved and they are not allowed to keep him. He has to be out of the house by September 15th. Simpson likes to be by his people. Simpson loves to play with squeaky toys and plays fetch. Simpson knows sit, no, come, lay down. Simpson has only been around one other dog so he can be shy around new dogs and people.

Simpson has good house manners, but will learn crate training, as we do with all of our rescues. Possibly, if Simpson had been crate trained, he would have been able to accept the shelter confinement a bit easier. At the moment, Simpson is totally bewildered and doesn't understand what he did wrong.

Update 9-24-09: Simpson is coming out of his shell. Look at that picture of him now! Simpson has made some friends here, with Fannie (she loves him), Frieda, Thor, and Ruger. Simpson is starting to play fetch with us, one on one. Simpson likes to go for leash walks, but is unsure when we start to put the leash on him. Poor boy will submissive pee at first, then we tell him he is okay, and then he likes to go with us.

This nice looking boy is going to be one of the good ones !

In order to be considered to adopt him, an exercise program along with proper diet, will need to be addressed. His paperwork shows that a few months ago, he weighed 73 pounds. I believe he was a bit heavier yet. He is a big boy, and his ideal weight might be around the 60 pound mark.

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"J. D. (Deaf)"
Meet J. D. in Lansing, MI
J.D. LOVES Kids

JamesDean8-13-09 James Dean (J.D.) arrives in rescue from an Indiana shelter. We were told that he had arrived at the shelter in September 2008, was adopted out and then returned back to the shelter after months with the family and they realized he was deaf. They had told the shelter that when they pulled into the driveway, they had honked the horn, and he did not move.

J. D. is great with people, he is dog friendly, and will be tested with cats (and doing well). His teeth are nice and clean, and the shelter aged him at 1-1/2 years old.

8-19-09 Update from his foster Mom: We have only had JD for less than a week, but so far he's a great guy. He's super friendly with every person and dog that he meets. He absolutely LOVES physical affection. He's not treat motivated but he still wants to please so we are already working on hand signals and good eye contact.

He doesn't like his crate and will protest, but does go in without a fight and keeps it clean all day and night. I think he would rather be with us than in his crate, but as he needs a safe place, we are going to keep working on showing him it's a good place to be. He's still dragging a leash in and out of the house. He gets very excited and acts like a clown at times but in general is a respectful boy; even at meal times. A baby gate will not hold this agile little leaper, but he doesn't go over the back yard fence even where it's only 4ft. He likes dog toys and hasn't *yet* picked up anything that he shouldn't. If I ask, he will give me the toys without trouble. Good boy. He walks very nicely on a leash with me and the pack. The one or two times that I accidentally dropped the leash or he got into the unfenced front yard, he didn't take off running. I still will be more careful until I know I can trust him! He is interested in the cat. I'm sure if she gave him a reason, he'd love to chase her. However, she doesn't run and because of this I trust him enough for him to be alone indoors or out with her and not to bother her. We are enjoying his stay for now and will continue to work on helping him be a well-adjusted pet. He already has a great start.

I have to share a few more things about Mr. Delightful. Yesterday the 8 year-old down the street stopped by to say hi. She knows me from walking all the dogs, and because each one of the kids in the family has her own dog; hers is an Aust. Shepherd. We went into the back yard and she sat on the wooden spools that we have back there. JD jumped up behind her and sat with her. He was so polite and gentle. He sat and sniffed her shirt and licked her. He is just such a beautiful soul that dog! I knew he'd be good with kids, but this was exceptional. Then last night I was painting my toes when JD kept sniffing and sniffing and trying to lick. Then he'd paw at me a little. He was trying to figure out the 'game'! So I stopped and grabbed his foot like I was going to paint his toes. He just flopped over on his side and acted like he was going to snooze. Goof! Later he came over and I had him sit next to me. I put my arm around him and he LEANED on me. Then he leaned his head over and gave me a full-on hug. I'm mean a big, strong, HUG! I've never had a dog actually HUG me before! Of course, then he collapsed into my lap, belly with me holding him like a big baby. Mike comes out and says 'what a spoiled boy!' Well, yeah, but he was being so cuddly, how could I resist! ~Jenifer (Foster Mom)

October 4: Check out J.D. photo album to see pictures of him at the TSC meet and greet. Look at how good he is with kids!

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"Ruger"
Meet Ruger in Remus, MI

Ruger7-12-09 Ruger is a two year old red heeler male, needing to be rehomed. Ruger has been recently neutered, but needs his shots updated and a heartworm check. According to the surrendering owner, Ruger is good around kids. Ruger had not worn a collar and needs to learn about walking on a leash. Ruger started out in the house as a puppy, but has since been only an outside dog. Ruger has a docked tail and is a bit over weight. Ruger is a WIDE and STOCKY boy, just the kind of ACD I like to see. When Ruger came to our home and was still in their vehicle, one of our cats came into his view, and he growled at the cat. After we get more time with him, we will check it out.

September 2009: Ruger has lost the extra weight, is learning how to walk on a leash, and is showing us some herding instinct. Ruger still acts very puppy like and can be mouthy, but he is very happy all the time. He is starting to give eye contact. Ruger exercises daily in a group of 5-6 dogs, both males and females, where he does well. In my opinion, Ruger is going to need an ACD experienced home, where there are rules and consistency.

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"Jakester"
Meet Jakester in Remus, MI

JakesterJakester is a 1-1/2 year old male with very unique coloring. This guy has both the red and blue, and is kind of a chocolate coloring. Jakester comes into rescue with his grandmother Mia, who is also very sweet. Jakester has not had vetting done, so he is first on the list to be neutered on Tuesday, June 16th.

Jakester was born in January 2008, is housebroke, loves attention and loves kids. Jakester has a docked tail. He also likes the tennis ball and soft frisbee.

Jakester has not been in a crate before, so we are taking it slow with leaving the dog door open so he can come and go as he pleases. His food is in his crate, and when I leave and come back, it is cleaned up. We just want to show him that the crate is not hurting him.

Our adoption fee covers the Distemper booster, Rabies vaccine, spaying/neutering, heart worm testing, deworming and microchipping.

"Quip"
Meet Quip in Remus, MI

Thank you, Sue, for 2 month Sponsor
Thank you, Jen, for 1 month Sponsor

QuipAugust 2009: Quip loves to learn, and has learned to Sit and Lay Down. Quip gives good eye contact, loves to play with toys, and gets along with other dogs. Quip sometimes does have a watch dog bark when strangers come to the rescue, but we just tell him that we have it covered. He is happy to comply. But, when Sue came to visit, Quip didn't make a peep. Same thing when Jenifer came for a visit. We are hoping he has outgrown it, or at least trusts us to protect him.

June 2009: Quip joins the adult male page, as we consider him a year old now.

Quip comes to rescue on January 9, 2009. We were asked to take in 2 pups around 6 months old. The red male pup came here and will be available for adoption after January 23rd. The male pup is older than 6 months old, and probably already weighs 45 pounds. He is a big stocky boy and looks even bigger with all of his outside winter coat. Quip does have a full tail. This boy is very sweet, but knows nothing. Has not had a collar or leash training and thinks I'm hurting him while trying to move him from place to place. He is learning what a crate is and how to rely on me for his food. Quip is a nice young man, and will learn quickly.

January 2008: Quip has a nasty wound on his neck, that looks like he was attacked by a dog or coyote. It has been there a while by the looks of it, and we will doctor it until his vetting appointment on January 15th.

Australian Cattle Dog or herding breed experience is required to apply / adopt our pups. Our adoption fee covers the spay / neuter, Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine(s), Microchipping, HW testing with monthly preventative and starting of deworming.

"Levi"
Meet Levi in Remus, MI

Thank you Corene, for Sponsoring Levi
Thank you, Rae and Rufus, for 1 month Sponsor

Levi Levi is new to rescue on 6-9-08 from OH with his brother Sabastian. They were owner surrenders and have lived their entire lives of 8 months in a kennel. The owners stated they were in the kennel 23 hours a day. Well it shows, neither one knows what a collar, leash, or being petted is. Levi is eating very well and will accept treats from my hand. He is learning to walk on a leash in only 48 hours and loves to play with Red Winston. Levi is progressing quicker than his brother and seems more relaxed around myself and my family. He had all his vetting done on 6-3-08 but will not be ready for adoption until he can show us he is ready to live life as a normal puppy in a family. We have a slow road ahead of us but these pups are very worth the extra time. We will update as Levi progresses.

Levi: UPDATE 6-21-08 - Levi has been in rescue for nearly 2 weeks now. He is walking on a leash and loves to go for his walks at my workplace with Red Winston. Poor Levi gets car sick on the way to work - we will work on this as he will go to work with me 5 days a week. He is scared and doesn't know what is going on. He is comfortable enough in the office to take treats, sleep in a crate, chew on toys and play with Winston. Levi is very alert, cautious, and leary of new situations and people. We will socialize him as much as he will tolerate on a good level. His crate training is going very well as he keeps a clean crate all night long. He still scares easily and is not comfortable being loved on very much. We are very pleased with the progress he is making! He's not ready to leave rescue yet but is making great strides. Levi will need a securely fenced in yard, and a person who will continue his confidence building and socialization. No children under 12yrs old please. Another very stable dog in the home would benefit him also. ACD experience will be an absolute must for Levi.

UPDATE 7-4-08: Levi is progressing nicely and is ready for the next step into someone life as a forever companion. He is very alert and cautious about new situations and people. Levi is the first to come up and investigate something new and get a treat. He will not allow you to pet him unless you are holding the leash and he can't go anywhere. We are working on that. But while at work with me, if I say "want to go outside?" he is right there waiting for the leash to be attached. He walks good on a leash and is so happy about it. He has very good eye contact and watches your every move. He is crate trained and doing well with his housetraining. He LOVES to play with other dogs. Levi needs a person who understands he needs time to gain trust in you. Someone who will continue his confidence building and show him the sky is not falling. Food is the way into this pups trust.

10-17-08 Levi has been in Michigan rescue since August 1, 2008 and is making more progress. We are happy with his attitude and the fact that his eyes seldom leave ours. Levi WANTS to be the best buddy but doesn't know how to go about it. Levi LOVES to go for walks and checks in every couple of seconds. Levi LOVES to run along side the 4 wheeler and he doesn't have time to think about being afraid. Levi likes a routine, and takes a bit of understanding while he gets comfortable with a new change. When Levi gives away his worries, his person will be blessed with a great young man.

"Polo"
Adoption Pending!

PoloUpdate October 4, 2009: Polo met his new family at the TSC Meet and Greet.

June 30, 2009: Polo comes to us from a Michigan shelter where they commented on how nice this red heeler boy is. Polo was neutered on Friday, is heart worm negative and up to date on shots now. Polo comes here with kennel cough too.

7-28-09 Update: Polo is a shy boy at first meeting, but does like the attention. I like his nice attitude and I like how he watches everything I do. Polo seems to be on the young side, one to two years old. He is small for a male, around 35 pounds.

Update September 2009: Polo went on an adventure down state to a Pet Outfitters Store where he spent a couple of hours meeting many people and their pets. I was very proud of Polo, he was friendly, even though he can be shy at first. Everyone was greeted as a friend. It was nice to see Polo out of his element and have him handle the 2 hour ride each way too.
