Available Michigan Adult Males

Here are the listings for Michigan adult males that are available for adoption.
Listings are included for adoption's that are pending.

"Winston"

WinstonWinston appears to be a young guy at around 1 year of age. He weighs around 40 pounds, has a beautiful blue coat, and a long tail. Winston has a nice friendly disposition, likes toys, and is friendly with the dogs that come up to his kennel to sniff him. Winston came into rescue on May 9th, and will be ready for his new home after May 23rd. You are welcome to meet him anytime before his release date.

"Jarvis"
Adoption Pending!

JarvisJarvis is young male around a year old or younger. He has a great personality, that shows us someone took some time with this boy and his training. He knows sit, down, shake and loves to play fetch. Jarvis walks by my side while in the exercise yard. The temporary foster Mom said he was a good house guest while waiting for his transport north. This is a nice boy and if that is what you are looking for, this is your guy.

"Red Baron"

Red BaronRed Baron is around 1-2 years old and is a nice looking red heeler male. He weighs about 45 pounds and has a long tail. Red Baron needs to learn how to walk on a leash, as he would rather we carry him. Well, that is not going to happen, so he is going to get a crash course on what a leash is. The shelter said he was hard to catch, so maybe they "snared" him and that is why he freezes up with a leash.

"Trubador"

TrubadorTrubador is a small blue heeler male weighing only 26 pounds. Trubador has a nice double mask and a light blue body with a nice bushy tail. Trubador is just recently vetted and will be available after April 25th.

Trubador seems scared so far, and seems to trust me a bit more than my husband. This will probably change in time, so we are not too worried. The shelter mentioned that he acts tough, but did settle into their routine after a time.

"Duncan"

DuncanDuncan comes into rescue from a shelter where he ran out of time. Duncan weighs 56 pounds, he has the big feet, large male head and the coolest white tail. Duncan is around 2 years old. Duncan is showing us his temperament is very good so far, he is just kind of easy going, like a good ole boy.

When we got to the shelter, we were told that Duncan is an escape artist, because he knows how to open the pens. We have heard that before, so we didn't think too much about it. We brought him home we put him into our "new" dogs pen which is 6 foot tall, and went into the house. We get a knock on the door a few minutes later, asking us if we are missing a dog? We said no (partly because they said they saw an Australian Shepherd) and didn't think too much about it. They said that the dog wouldn't come up to them, so we said if they caught the dog we would take a look at it. Well, a bit later, here comes a blue heeler in the pickup, and guess who? Duncan.

Duncan seems really sad, and like he is looking for his person. When we put him back into the exercise yard, he was more content being with the pack. This really impresses us, as Duncan was still intact, and he doesn't act like he is. The other dogs seem to accept him, since he has the nice attitude.

Duncan is now staying put in the 4 foot exercise pen, so he must be happier, because he could "wander" anytime he wants. This makes us feel better. I'm thinking that after he gets "fixed" we will solve that wanderlust. Smile. If you take a look at his picture album, the first picture is how he was at the shelter, then the other pictures are 2 days later. See the change?

"Rowdy Rawhide"

RawhideRescue is hoping that Rowdy will go back to his owners this summer, as that is where he wants to be. Rowdy is showing improvement, and we give him a lot of credit.

Rawhide was born in January 2006, and his owner has lost their home. This 2 year old neutered red heeler male is a beautiful boy. Rawhide knows some leash manners and sits on command. Rawhide is house trained and crate trained.

The male in the previous home did not treat this dog well as was admitted by the ladies that surrendered him. Rawhide has made up to his female caretaker here at rescue, but he is VERY fearful of my husband. We are taking things slow, and my husband has been able to feed him a few treats which shows us that it will just take time to gain his trust. Rawhide has growled to show his fear, and he shakes like a leaf. Rawhide has not bit, so we feel he could be worked with. I like this boy, and I feel when we break through the fear, there is a loyal ACD inside. We were told that he LOVES to play Frisbee. We were also told that this boy is/was AKC registered. Might be true, as he is a nice looking young man.

"Isaac"
Adoption Pending!

IsaacIsaac is a smaller blue heeler male at about 35 pounds. He is about 2 years old, and very people friendly. Isaac gets very excited while riding in the vehicle as he wants to bark at the cars going by on his way to rescue, so he will need some work on this. Isaac is crate trained, he is neutered, and is up to date on shots and microchipped.

Isaac wanted to bark in the kennel, but he was corrected only a couple of times and now minds his manners better. So he has it in him to behave and listen. He just needs to learn what the rules are, and is happy to comply.

Isaac LOVES to play ball, and will bark excitedly to get you to throw it for him. Isaac loves to "herd" the basketball too. The nice thing about him is, he does not have to "get" the ball each time, and lets some of the other dogs play too.

PENDING ADOPTIONS! The pending adoptions have either gone to their new homes for a 2 week trial or have a deposit to hold the dog until they are ready to pick them up.

"Baloo"
Adoption Pending!

BalooBaloo is a blue heeler mix pup around a year old. The pup was a pet store puppy that became too old, and was going to be euthanized because he wasn't a cute puppy anymore. An apartment dwelling young man took in the dog, then left Baloo with his parents. The parents contacted me, and here he is. He is recently neutered and updated on his shots. Baloo has been around little kids, and according to the Dad has no bad habits, just is energetic. We have 2 weeks to evaluate him before adoption, so we will see if this is a true assessment. Each breed is different, and ACD pups are notorious for mischief. This is why we require herding breed experience for adopters of youngsters.

BalooWe were told originally that Baloo is 7 or 8 months old, but he is more like a year old. He is a very small male at only 30 pounds. Baloo was not crate trained when he arrived here, even though we were told that he had no accidents previously. We've had many dogs here, and we do know when a dog understands keeping his crate clean and when he does not. Since he was a product of a pet store, he had no choice but to go where he lived and slept.

Finally, Baloo has learned he doesn't have to sleep in a wet crate, and has been mostly dry since September 24th. We have a party in the morning and he gets lots of praise and treats for his good behavior. We keep him in a plastic crate as opposed to a wire crate, and this works the best for this young guy.

RESCUE RETURNS
Our "Special Guys" Listings

The boys listed here, have been returned back to rescue for various reasons. We feel that there is a home somewhere, where people understand them and will not give up on them. In some cases, the home environment did not give the dogs what they needed. If you are up for a challenge and for a dog who is forever grateful to be given another chance, take a look at our guys. We will be happy to discuss what 'special needs' these dogs require. We do not feel that they are "bad" dogs, just mis-understood dogs.

We will not knowingly adopt out what we feel are dangerous dogs, as they do not belong in good homes. There are too many good dogs in need, and we focus on those dogs. In each case below, we do not believe it is all of the dogs fault and they can be re-habilitated. We also believe they should be given a second chance with the right people.
Could that be you?
