Available Michigan Adult Females

Here are the listings for adult females that are available for adoption.
Listings are included for adoption's that are pending with deposits.

"Blanche"

BlancheBlanche appears to be around 3 years old, and is a dark blue heeler female. Nice girl who is shy at first meeting, but quickly warms up. She does well in the pack here in rescue, so this makes her very adoptable to a multi dog home. She will be vetted before adoption, and needs to be here for her 2 week evaluation until April 25th.

"Shea" Fostered in Lansing, MI

Shea Shea is a 2 year old red and blue heeler female who was rescued in 2006, adopted, then found running as a stray on March 10, 2008. We were not able to re-claim her until March 20th because she was microchipped, but she is safe at her foster home now in Lansing, MI.

Update from foster Mom: I am fostering Shea in Lansing, and had not previously met her before 're-rescuing' her. Shea was very nice to meet at Animal Control. She was immediately friendly, and allowed me to pet her, check her teeth, and touch her feet. I took her for a quick walk to calm her and she was good on the leash. On the way home, she rode well in the front seat with me, but would duck when we went under overpasses and flinch when we went by semi trucks. Since being in our foster home Shea has been nothing but lovely. On her first day she really needed a bath. (Peee-yew!) She did not protest or misbehave AT ALL. She's very small so I just lifted her right in. When it was over, she enjoyed to be toweled off so much she climbed right in my lap and gave kisses! She has longer, curly fur so she looks very fluffy in these post-bath pictures. Again, she is very sweet and polite. She gets along great with our three other dogs too. She likes to wrestle with the boys.

When we go for our morning walks together as a pack, she walks very well. She doesn't pull or act nervous. She doesn't act aggressive to other dogs and is almost jumpy when corrected. I don't have children, but I should note that Shea looks VERY interested when she hears kids. My GUESS would be that she would be good with kids but I would have to see first. In the house she is just as nice. She does not gobble her treats or dinner, in fact she seems a bit like she's not sure she's even supposed to be eating she's very timid. She hasn't gotten into anything like the trash or the ferret cage or even chewed on the dog toys for that matter. She sleeps very well in her crate in our bedroom. It is clear that she sees it as her safe place and will go in it on her own during the day. Shea is very polite about going through the outside doors.

She is hesitant as if she doesn't feel she belongs in the house. She certainly enjoys being outside! Additionally, Shea has already learned that she should wait to have her muddy feet wiped on the way in. Again, she has a very cheerful disposition. She's light on her feet when she's happy. She seems to like my husband a bit more than me, because she dances when he talks to her and comes when he calls. She does seems a bit timid of me. She will need someone to be calm with her and not get frustrated or loud when she becomes confused. Other than that, as far as I can see, Shea needs very little and has very little impact on our daily routine. She really just needs lots and LOTS of love and a family that will commit to her for the rest of her life. She's a good girl, and she deserves it.

"Tara"
LOVES the Frisbee!

TaraTara was adopted 4 months ago, and is now being returned because she is nervous around the 3 year old grandchild. The adopter states she is good around the other dogs, the cats, the chickens, and the pig. She is a phenomenal Frisbee girl. She is a lightweight girl, and has excellent focus. Very smart, maybe too smart for her own good?

Tara is around a year old, and looks to be an ACD and Terrier mix. She was found by a good Samaritan by a busy highway as a pup.

Tara loves her toys, especially the balls, and she is a fast runner. I believe she would enjoy flyball, and she even uses those front feet like a terrier with her toys. Tara makes me laugh, as she uses her front feet to make the shade covering on the dog houses shake up and down while she is trying to initiate a playful romp. She would be a riot on a trampoline!

"Daisy Duke"
Excellent Focus

Daisy DukeDaisy Duke was surrendered by a family because they could not control her, and did not want to take her to the shelter. She has been vetted by the rescue, on October 9th. Daisy does not seem to know much in the training department, as was pointed out by the vet. She did not like to be there, and made sure that everyone knew it. We are working on leash work and just plain handling her. For some reason she is very reluctant to have anyone pick her up. There is some reason for this, and we are trying to figure it out, and making sure we pick her up many times.

Daisy is starting to come around, and the other members of the "pack" are good for her to learn from. Daisy has excellent focus, and is smart as can be, so she continues to improve. Someone who has the time to spend with her will get themselves a smart and willing to learn girl.

Daisy's picture makes her look big, but she is actually kind of petite, and weighs just 30 pounds.

"Hershey"

HersheyHershey was found running at large in Detroit for months. She was fed by a neighborhood who were trying to catch her. When she was caught by the animal control, she stayed in the back of her kennel, and was scared to be there.

Hershey now has a safe place to learn that she doesn't have to fend for herself anymore. She has been vetted and is microchipped. Hershey is a small girl at 33#, she is short, and has great big huge ears. She kind of looks like a "gizmo" character, she is cute. Now, I see why so many people were trying to save her life.

Hershey is finding that this place is not so bad, and has a cute personality. She likes to play bow to me and is great friends with Rowdy. She has learned that not all dogs are out to hurt her, so she rarely tries to fight anymore. Big improvement. The tips of her ears have signs of being frostbit.

"Rose"
Rose is now HW negative.

RoseRose comes into rescue along with an unwanted blue female pup. In 2005 we had Rose's brothers surrendered to rescue, Britches and Chaps. Rose had a litter of 7 pups before being surrendered, and only 3 made it, they gave up one pup and kept the other 2 females. Heaven help us.

Both girls were unsocialized, very thin and full of worms. Rose did not pay any attention to her pup, and the pup did not try to nurse either. Rose shows all the signs of being abused, as she is petrified of everything. We waited for Rose to dry up before her spay and found out from MSU that she is Heart Worm positive. After she recovers from her surgery, we will begin her HW treatment.

Rose has completed her treatment and is starting to blossom into a happier young lady. We think she actually feels better now. We are looking for special pet parents, where Rose doesn't have to want for anything again. This New Year has got to be better for Rose.

Rose is finally showing us that she is ready to trust people. She seems to be feeling better and she actually looks at me when I call her name. You can just tell she WANTS to get some attention. Rose has made up to a few visitors to the rescue and we've found out that Rose LOVES children. She comes right up to the fence and gets all excited and even gives kisses.

May 1st update: Miss Rose has a clean bill of health, and tested Heart Worm negative today. We are doing the happy dance for this special girl.

"Gertrude"
Retired Momma!

Gertrude
Gertrude will be spayed on April 12, 2008 and ready for her new life, just being a regular dog.

Gertrude and Gigi are sisters who were taken away by animal control, along with Gigi's 5 puppies. Both girls are nice and friendly, after a bit of time of warming up. They are eating well and are being treated for worms. Both girls have docked tails and are short and stocky built blue heelers.

After deworming Gertrude, she started putting on weight, and now we realize she is pregnant. Since she came from a breeder, we are not surprised. We are planning on whelping the litter, then getting her spayed after the pups are weaned.

"Katie" aka Miss Houdini

Katie Katie is about 3 years old and is coming back into rescue because of her 'escape' escapades. We've been told that Katie is escaping out of her crate(s) while her caretaker is at work. We will know more about how to help her when we get her back on May 2nd. Katie is not a bad dog, just looking for her caretaker, as she considers that her job.

Update May 2007: Katie has been back here for one week and she is not escaping or even looking for a way out. Katie is afraid of thunderstorms, and loud noises. Katie will go through a desensitizing to see if we can help her out. Like we said before, Katie is not a bad dog, she just needs to understand that she is safe and we care about her. Katie knows how to use a doggie door and she gets along with the other dogs here in rescue. Katie knows how to jump up in your arms for you to catch her. She does not have a toy drive. If interested in Katie, and have the time and patience to work with this deserving girl, I will make a concession on her adoption fee to the right person.

Update September 2007: Katie is allowed to be in the exercise pens with 4 foot high fencing. She has not offered to jump over and she has not attempted to escape her crate. She is much happier now, as she smiles a lot. Since May, we have not heard from her adopter, so we will allow Katie to be adopted out to an approved ACD experienced home.

PENDING ADOPTIONS! The pending adoptions have either gone to their new homes for a 2 week trial or have a deposit to hold the dog until they are ready to pick them up.

"Betsy Blue"
Adoption Pending!

Betsy BlueBetsy Blue was adopted 2 years ago, and is losing her home, so is being returned to rescue. We were told that the husband's having respiratory health problems due to the dogs in the home and is on oxygen full time.

This girl is great with kids, and has been within a large family for the past 2 years. Betsy needs some "tough love" as she seems to be used to getting her own way. For instance, she was allowed on the furniture, the table, the bed, you get the idea. It's kind of funny in a way, because she wonders why she can't do what she wants, when she wants. This makes me wonder if this is why she was surrendered back to rescue.

"Glory"
Adoption Pending!

GloryUpdate 3-20-08 Glory attended a meet and greet at the local TSC store, and was a great breed ambassador. Glory met everyone with tail a wagging, and special Glory kisses for the kids. This girl LOVES kids, and she was sad when she came back to the kennel, as we don't have any little ones running in and out. Our kids have left the nest. Glory went to a friends home for fostering a couple of weeks ago, and they have an almost 2 year old who Glory was a great playmate for. As you can see in the picture, the 4 year old girl was her buddy.

Glory is a 1-2 year old spayed (has scar on her belly) female Australian Cattle Dog. She is current on her shots thru 10/2008, Heartworm negative, housebroken, crate trained, knows basic obedience and some tricks, walks well on a leash, good with other dogs but does play cattle dog style. Many dogs find "cattle dog play" annoying so if you have another dog they will have to meet, to see if they are compatible. She was adopted out in 10/2007 from an Ohio shelter, and was returned because they said that she did not do well with small animals including cats. Please let rescue evaluate her on this point before making judgment. Rescue is seeing a girl who wants to please, so we do not think that she will be that hard to teach to "Leave It".

If you know ACD's you will love Glory. If you are not aware of the breed characteristics please do research on the breed. They have to be active and will find their own "job" if not exercised enough. Confinement at a shelter is very hard on this breed and Glory seems to be happier here where there are other heelers.

Glory's foster Mom is not finding a major problem with her cats, as Glory is very receptive to voice correction. A nice thing about this girl, is that the foster family has a youngster (almost 2 years old) and Glory just loves her. Good Girl Glory.

RECENT ADOPTIONS! The most recent adoptions are listed here. If you have recently adopted a RESCUED Australian Cattle Dog, we thank you on behalf of the dogs.

"Speckled Indigo"
Adopted!

Speckled IndigoIndigo is a 3 year old blue speckled female. She is a short and stocky girl. This girl has one of the nicest temperaments that we have here. She loves attention and loves to eat, which means we need to put her on a bit of diet. She didn't offer to chase our cats. Good Girl. Indigo will be vetted on 1-17-08. Indigo has not been in a shelter, and has taken her move here all in stride. If you are looking for a loyal companion and mellow ACD, Indigo is your girl.

Indigo needs to learn many things, as she was only kenneled for her first 3 years. She has learned to sit and wait, she is crate trained, and she does well with the younger dogs here in rescue. She is kind of slow (stubborn) in learning things, as she was never expected to learn things before now. Indigo has found out that I am more stubborn, and she is expected to do all of the things that the other dogs do.
