Available Heelers in Illinois

Here are the current available listings of our Blue and Red Heelers in Illinois looking for forever homes. Take your time and look at their pictures and read their biographies. Remember, that if you cannot adopt, you can still sponsor them until they are adopted.

AuCaDo Australian Cattle Dog Rescue does not adopt out "little" ACD puppies, due to the fact that ACD pups need the time with their siblings or with older ACD's to learn from. They learn much more from their kind than from us. The minimum age we feel is appropriate to adopt out, if we have pups, is around 12 weeks. Herding Breed experience is required for adopting a young pup from AuCaDo Illinois Rescue. We need to be sure that puppy adopters understand the breed and will not give up on the puppy when they exhibit typical ACD behaviors. Behavior issues are the number one reason why dogs are surrendered to shelters and rescues.

If you are interested in adopting one of our Australian Cattle Dog Rescues, please complete an adoption application. We think they are all treasures and hope you will find your special friend with AuCaDo Rescue Illinois. Check out the petfinder.com listings also for availability.

Sponsor Your Favorite Foster
Would you like to help with rescue but are unable to foster? Please consider sponsoring one of the precious foster dogs on our website. Most of our rescue cattle dogs have vet bills in excess of their adoption fee. Constant health care along with monthly heartworm and flea preventatives are costly. We are looking for Rescue Angels to sponsor our fosters monthly by either sending a check for $25 each month or making payments via paypal. By choosing a special foster that you will help by covering their additional vetting that their adoption fee will not cover, you are allowing us to continue our rescue efforts and save more cattle dogs. Your sponsored cattle dog's foster parent will try to send you an email with updates and new photos, telling you how they are progressing and enjoying their new life.

If you would like to make your sponsorship payment by mail, please send a check for $25 to:
AuCaDo Rescue Illinois
20996 N Miller Lake Rd
Texico, IL 62889
or click on the paypal button beside the special foster that you would like to sponsor.

Brandi has chased chickens, has been obedience trained, loves to ride in the car/truck, weighing about 45 lbs. Seems already to be a bit jealous of the other dogs but does not really fight them. Brandi is a little bit afraid of storms so she would need to be inside when they occur. I would like her to go to an indoor home as she is so suited to being in the house.

"Roper" is Deaf
Adoption Pending!

RoperRoper with the ice blue eyes, was pulled from a shelter under the Michigan chapter of AuCaDo Rescue. He is being fostered in Montgomery Illinois with a deaf dog and sign language experienced foster Mom. If interested in more info about this boy, an application must be submitted or a phone call before the foster contact information will be shared.

Here is the initial evaluation of Roper from his foster Mom: He loves to play with the other dogs. However, he does not read warning signs very well. It seems the biggest problem was he couldn't hear her growl and he was too focused on the toy to pay any attention to her reactions. This was his first day in the foster home, so we will monitor his progress.

We were told he was owner surrendered by disabled owners who could no longer care for him. Roper is a high energy dog and it seems like he played a lot of tug. Probably too much... He guards his toys and will only give them to you on his terms. It's very clear that he ran his last house hold. If I ignore him he gets very mouthy. He'll sit and bark at me to throw the toy and if I ignore that, he jumps up and grabs my hand. Also, if I'm holding the toy and don't throw it soon enough, he'll jump up and grab at it. If I physically push him back away from me, he will grab my hand and mouth it. So he's going to need a little work on that. I would not recommend him with young kids, but 10+ should be fine.

On a good note... he's house broken! He will bark and go to the door when he needs to go outside. He goes out and potties right away and then barks to come back in. He's also picking up my signs really well and will come, sit, and lay down when asked. He does not jump on people or furniture. Needs work on a leash. He got a bath on Sunday, no problems there. He'll even jump in the tub for me! I think he'll be a great dog, but he needs some boundaries and needs to be a little more respectful.

AuCaDo Australian Cattle Dog Rescue requires herding breed experience and require a fenced in yard to keep the dogs safe. Also suggested that a vibrating collar be used for training and recall if the dog is facing away from you. Sign language teaching ability is a plus. Final placement rests with his foster Mom.
