AuCaDo
Australian Cattle Dog Rescue
Available Ohio Heelers

Here are the current available listings of our Blue and Red Heelers, in Ohio, looking for forever homes. Take your time and look at their pictures and read their biographies. Remember, that if you cannot adopt, you can still sponsor them until they are adopted.

AuCaDo rescue does not adopt out "little" ACD puppies, due to the fact that ACD pups need the time with their siblings or with older ACD's to learn from. They learn much more from their kind than from us. The minimum age we feel is appropriate to adopt out, if we have pups, is around 12 weeks. Herding Breed experience is required for adopting a young pup from AuCaDo Rescue. We need to be sure that puppy adopters understand the breed and will not give up on the puppy when they exhibit typical ACD behaviors.

If you are interested in adopting one of our Cattle Dog rescues, please complete an adoption application. We think they are all treasures and hope you will find your special friend with AuCaDo Rescue Michigan. Check out the petfinder.com listings also for availability.

Sponsor Your Favorite Foster
Would you like to help with rescue but are unable to foster? Please consider sponsoring one of the precious foster dogs on our website.
Most of our rescue cattle dogs have vet bills in excess of their adoption fee. Constant health care along with monthly heartworm and flea preventatives are costly. We are looking for Rescue Angels to sponsor our fosters monthly by either sending a check for $25 each month or making payments via paypal. By choosing a special foster that you will help by covering their additional vetting that their adoption fee will not cover, you are allowing us to continue our rescue efforts and save more cattle dogs. Your sponsored cattle dog's foster mom will send you an email with updates and new photos, telling you how they are progressing and enjoying their new life.
If you would like to make your sponsorship payment by mail, please send a check for $25 to:
AuCaDo Rescue Mid-Michigan
3861 Twelve Mile Rd.
Remus, MI 49340
or click on the paypal button beside the special foster that you would like to sponsor.

Thank you, Teresa, for 2 month Sponsor

OH DeeDee
DeeDee is new to rescue on 9/24/09 from a southern Ohio shelter. DeeDee went from the shelter to the vet and is being treated for Parvo.

UPDATE 9-29-09: DeeDee was released from the vet yesterday and is in foster care now. She is full of spunk, which is good to see, after how sick she was. Dr. Libby feels she is 9 weeks old and weighed in at 9.5#. Her vetting is set for 10/29. She is keeping a dry crate at night and eating very well. DeeDee has good focus on her person and is learning hand signals for "sit", "come", and "good girl". She is a very friendly, outgoing, fearless puppy, who will require an ACD experienced home. Deaf dog experience is a plus. With an approved application you are welcome to come meet her. A deposit will hold her until she is ready to go home.

UPDATE 11/01/09: DeeDee is now spayed, micro-chipped and weighed in at 16.5#. DeeDee is crate trained and nearly housebroken. She does very well in new situations. She enjoys going to work with me and meeting new people and their dogs. DeeDee enjoys her training sessions and walks. She will do anything for a treat. She is ready for her forever home!

"Amazing Grace" is Deaf
Creston, OH

OH Grace
New to rescue on 9/21/09 from a north-east Ohio shelter. Amazing Grace is being fostered in Creston OH.

After 2 weeks of being there, this female dog was finally reported hanging around a State Route in Wayne Co OH. The caller stated they thought she'd go home or at least get hit by a car. Well, she didn't get hit by a car, but our vet has confirmed she was hit or kicked with something on her left eye. Her eye was protruding out of her skull and bleeding for at least 3 days before the Dog Warden was notified. She immediately received emergency care to hopefully save her eye & is currently getting the vet care she needs through our rescue, even though her hold is not over until 9/21/09.

Update 9/21/09: Amazing Grace's stray hold is over, she is now a part of our rescue. She was seen by our vet again today and he is please with her eye progress. He is hopeful she will keep her eye since the bleeding has stopped and the swelling is down. Grace is around 5-6 years old, heartworm negative, and is only 32#, she should be closer to 40#. We will get her vaccinated, but her spay will wait until she heals from this traumatic injury.

We are amazed at Grace's willingness to still trust people and everyone who meets her comments on her temperament. She adores my children, is crate trained, seems housebroken, knows "sit", "down", "shake", sniffed the cat, jumps right in the SUV for rides, and is good with new dogs as long as they are respectful. Grace likes to play with the other dogs & meet new people, even though her eye is painful and doesn't have full vision. We have confirmed Amazing Grace is deaf, which just makes her story all the more amazing. This sweet ACDx came to our doorstep for a reason and we will enjoy her thoroughly until her perfect home is found!

Update 10/3/09: Grace had her weekly eye exam. She is still having bleeding upon exercise and strain on her eye when she pulls on the leash. She will be walked with a harness and exercise kept to a minimum. Her eye looks good externally, but her progress is guarded. Our vet feels in a month we will know if Grace will have a viable eye, or if it will need to be removed. Her spay will be done on 10/7 and her ear drums will be examined at that time too. With such a traumatic injury to her eye, we want to rule out injured ear drums too. Grace is being fostered in Rittman, OH with 2 German Shepherd dogs, who she adores. You are welcome to meet her now with an approved application. A deposit will hold her until she is ready to go home.

UPDATE 10/31/09: Our vet has confirmed Grace has a spay scar & we are waiting on blood work to confirm this. She had an internal ear exam and they are perfectly fine, she's been deaf since birth. We had a dental done on her also, since her teeth were so horrid. Too our surprise she has pearly white teeth and our vet is now aging her at 2-3 years of age! Grace's eye has healed, but it will remain sightless. It is a healthy eye, so our vet has recommended not to have it removed. She will need a simple eye drop, once daily, for the rest of her life to help insure her eye stays healthy. Even with her disabilities, this girl is one Amazing dog. She continues to make human and animal friends with everyone she meets. She adores cats and will groom them if given the chance. Grace goes to work with her foster Mom and interacts with up to 10 dogs at a time. Everyone there just adores her. She loves to travel and just be with her person. We will require a fenced in yard for Grace, due to the fact she will wander off if out of a fenced in area. Grace would make an amazing therapy dog. One meeting with her and you will know why everyone continues to call her Amazing Grace!

"Sydney"
Adoption Pending!

OH Sydney
Sydney is new to rescue on 10-7-09 from a central Ohio shelter. Sydney is being fostered in Creston OH.

Sydney is around 4 years old and 42#. She is a bit reserved upon first meeting her, but she soon warms up to you. She wagged her docked tail at my children too. It is very obvious she was bred multiple times, and sad to know she was dumped when they no longer needed her. We will give her some time to settle in, then allow her to meet some of the fosters. Sydney will learn crate training, housebreaking, and general obedience while in rescue. Please allow us to evaluate her thru 10/21/09.

UPDATE 10/17/09: Sydney has been in rescue for over a week now. She is completely crate trained, housebroken, walks well on a leash, and knows "sit". Sydney is doing well with meeting new people and going new places, she goes to work with me daily. She has been slowly introduced to Richard and DeeDee. At first she wasn't sure she wanted to be around them, but has since decided they are fun to play with. Sometimes she gets defensive, a simple voice reminder makes her stop. Sydney was in a shelter for 6 months and it takes a while for the "shelter shock" to wear off. We are impressed with her improvements in only 10 days! Sydney will do well in a home by herself or with a low-key, even tempered male. Syd has recently discovered toys and amuses herself, acting like a silly puppy. She was great at the vet for her suture removal and chip insert. Sydney will need an ACD experienced owner.

"Richard"

OH Richard
New to rescue on 9/26/09 from a north-east Ohio shelter. Richard is being fostered in Creston OH.

Richard is around 18 months old, 40#, and has the "blocky" head & stout body style. He has been good with adults and children. He met Mason, Grace, and Rodeo with tail wags and offers to play. He is heartworm negative and current on shots. We will get his neuter and micro-chip scheduled. Richard will learn crate training, housebreaking, & general obedience. Please check back for updates as we get to know him better.

UPDATE 10/3/09: Richard has been with us for one week today. This is a very nice male ACD. His neuter is scheduled for 10/7 and he will be ready for adoption after 10/10. Richard is learning what toys are and has already mastered "sit". He is a very well tempered ACD who is always happy to see you and meet new dogs. We are very impressed with this male who is now crate trained and walking good on a leash.

UPDATE 11/01/09: Richard is one of the good ones. He loves to go to work with me & always has a "smile" on his face. Richard is easy going and a joy to train. He is housebroken and respectful of cats. Richard's favorite past time is destroying stuffed animals, blankets, rope tugs or anything he can shred. He also loves the jolly ball that hangs from the tree. He makes us laugh daily and is quickly becoming a favorite of my kids! He is awesome with our puppy foster, DeeDee. We can't say enough good things about this boy.

RECENT ADOPTIONS! These most recent adoptions are listed here. Remember that you are saving two (or more) ACD's, the one you have adopted and the dog that takes their place here in rescue. Thank you for opening your home to a RESCUED Australian Cattle Dog.

"Rodeo"
Adopted!

OH Rodeo
UPDATE 10/3/09: Rodeo left for his new home today. We will update as he settles in.

Rodeo is two years old and was an owner surrender to a kill shelter for: "no room". How sad to live with your family for 2 years, to be given up for such a simple reason. We have had Rodeo neutered, vaccinated, wormed, and he will be heart worm tested & micro-chipped on 9/14. "Deo" has been ok with adults, children, and other dogs. He comes to us with kennel cough, so we are limiting his interactions with the other dogs, until he is feeling a bit better. He is around 40# and he only has 1/2 a tail. He has a puncture wound behind his right eye that is healing nicely. Deo seems a bit weak in his hind legs, so we will make sure he gets proper exercise to strengthen them up. He will learn crate training, housebreaking, basic obedience, and leash manners. Please allow rescue to evaluate Deo thru 9/24. We will post more as we get to know him better.

UPDATE 9/19/09: Deo is now micro-chipped and heartworm negative. Our vet feels he was kept confined and that caused his hind legs to become weak. We are allowing him to play and are seeing an improvement in his strength. He is starting to jog next to a bicycle, which he enjoys. Rodeo lacks confidence and social skills when meeting new people and dogs. He comes across as a bully, so we are teaching him the proper way to meet new people/dogs. Once introduced he is ok with people/dogs. He plays with Peepers, but needs to learn to read the other dogs language better. He is not aggressive, he just plays really rough, which we correct as most dogs do not appreciate this style of play. He is recovering well from his kennel cough and is crate trained. Rodeo knows "sit" very well & gives good eye contact. He needs work on his housebreaking skills. He was introduced to our cat and was curious, but not aggressive. He loves to go to work with me, where we work on his socialization around lots of new people.
